Melvyn Bragg, of all people, on Ken Russell in The Times in November, wrote: 'I worked as his gopher for about a year'. Hmmmmm, so Ken employed rodents did he? The word admittedly a neologism, but it's 'gofer' (from 'go for', 'go fetch this, go for that').
